As the aromas of warm baking fill the air and the marmalade bubbles to the perfect set we will enjoy a simple lunch of homemade soup, bread and cake.

Everyone goes home with a goodie bag including recipe sheets and your homemade bread and marmalade.

‘I heard about Sara Ward and Hen Corner through Chiswick Out & About magazine and thought I would sign up for one of her cooking courses, after enjoying creating a recipe she provided for the magazine. I was not disappointed – what an absolutely fantastic day I had! The day started at 10am with Sara warmly greeting us to her lovely house in West London. Delicious coffee and homemade biscuits were served (baked by Sara that morning) before we got started at learning how to mix, knead and prove our organic dough for baking and prepare our Seville oranges for marmalade making. We spent the day in Sara’s pretty conservatory overlooking her garden, admiring the chickens as we kneaded our dough and prepared the oranges. In between there was lots of lovely coffee and inspirational chat with Sara and the other course attendees about all sorts of things, mainly organic! In between various stages, we were treated to a delicious lunch of homemade soup and organic bread (yes baked that morning too!) along with divine homemade green tomato & chilli chutney and delicious cheese. Later we were further treated to organic homemade chilli & chocolate cake equally divine! Taking time in good company to create delicious bread & marmalade I found not only instructive and fun but incredibly therapeutic in our otherwise busy daily lives and Sara sent us all home with a goodie bag crammed with a pot of marmalade beautifully wrapped, our perfect cooked organic loaf and an extra treat of some eggs from her lovely chickens at Hen Corner! I shared the bread with my family that evening – all said how delicious it was and the toast with marmalade the following morning was just … well absolutely sublime! Will definitely be booking on to the preserving course in the Autumn! Many thanks Sara – you are an inspirational lady!’ 5 Stars – Justine, January ’14

  1. Hi sara, I cant see any date for this year, will you be doing any please?

    • Sorry Wendy, we’ve had our Toast & Marmalade course for this year, we only make marmalade in January when the Seville oranges are in season. If it’s preserving that you are interested in, see our Scones & Jam course and if it’s baking skills that you’d like to develop see Bread: Sweet & Savoury.
We hope to see you back at Hen Corner soon!

      • oh no, If I had known that it was the only one, I would have come 😦

  2. Hi Sara – Anne of the wheelies here. Looks like I’ve got a definite other one (possibly two) and me for the Toast and Marmalade. How many are there normally in a group please?

    • Hi Anne,

There are 6 spaces for the course, really glad that you want to join us!
