Calling all the wood whittlers, pocket knife carriers and hunter-gatherers… We’ve invited experienced craftsman, Thomas Bickerdike, as our guest tutor to lead this wood-craft course at Hen Corner. Thomas has over 30yrs experience working with wood both as a joiner and cabinet-maker, check out some of his recent green wood work here.

This special course is designed to give an introduction to green wood carving, we will supply all the tools and equipment needed to carve your own spoon. Throughout the day you will grow in knowledge, develop skills and explore opportunities that you can incorporate into your own life.

Our introduction to the day, with coffee and homemade biscuits, will outline the background and ethos of Hen Corner, then it’s time to choose your wood and pick up the tools…

Our day will include:

    • Background to the craft, health & safety briefing
    • Initial tutorial with demonstration
    • Individual supervised spoon carving
    • Lunch together
    • More time finishing our spoons
    • Instructions on oiling and preparing your spoon for food use

Each guest goes home with their own spoon in a goodie bag and a new skill to practise at your leisure.

Please note that this a ‘small group course’ to allow appropriate guidance and supervision whilst using sharp tools and, for health and safety reasons, this course is only open to over 18’s.

‘This was a brilliant course. Sara & Andy welcomed us so warmly into their home and garden. I was inspired both by the hen keeping course (which was the course I attended) but also by all their other brilliant small holding activities…’ TripAdvisor
